Knowledge Series– Collective mindsets

Posted by Prem Ramachandran on September 15th, 2016 in Blog

I always believed in ‘collective intelligence’ over myopic individual intelligence.

We conceptualised and managed the very first ‘Knowledge Series’ for SGI Dubai. The core objective of this event was to bring together thought leaders from across the industry to understand their viewpoints and lay a solid platform to grow the industry further, together. We are proud to say that some real good ideas came up during the discussion and this added another important dimension to the show. The participants were thoroughly convinced by the whole purpose behind the ‘Knowledge Series’ and this has trigered us to organise another one soon in the first quarter of 2017.

Time to buy into UAE’s real estate sector

Is this the right time to buy? Should I buy now? Where is the right location? Should I go for a 2 bedroom, a villa or a studio flat? I am sure you have started hearing all these questions once again. Post 2008, I am sure everyone wanted to steer away from the real estate sector but the confidence has returned. People were investing in the UAE much earlier than the Expo2020 win. This shows the confidence of the investors and it is not a playground for speculators any more.

I am sure as in any market, speculators are also there, however, with the strong rules and regulations in place these are all things of the past. These new laws will enable the industry to sustain the growth for a long period of time.

All the major developers are active and they are putting their best foot forward to attract the right customers and create a niche for themselves in the market. This is a great opportunity for investors who would like to be here in this city for the next few years and it would make sense for them to buy a property as compared to renting a unit.

Entertainment and amusement avenues in the region

Several mega multibillion dollar projects are being planned in Dubai and majority of these projects will showcase all kinds of family entertainment zones.

Let me ask you a question. What would you ideally do on a holiday to unwind and relax in Dubai a few months ago? Well it’s a no-brainer actually, it could be either malls, road trip, desert safari. Right? Well the answer would change a bit now with the introduction of IMG World of Adventures and Dubai parks and Resorts.

UAE is a successful leisure and entertainment destination that offers multiple choices to entice a wide range of tourists within close proximity. The country is well prepared to be crowned as a fun destination in the MENA region with commercial establishments and state-of-the-art-infrastructure. It has been leading the way in the Middle East and plays a major role with development of theme parks that can act as a major fun destination. A decade ago the entertainment landscape was totally different. However, there has been a paradigm shift and we have witnessed a giant leap within the theme park and amusement industry marketplace. Wouldn’t you agree?

Dubai inspires us on a daily basis

Compared to what the city was three decades ago, Dubai has transformed itself into one of the world’s fastest growing cities, with one of the fastest population growth in the world.

The International Monetary Fund has stated that Dubai’s economic growth will enter a period of ‘rapid acceleration. Dubai’s three key sub-sectors: wholesale and retail, travel and tourism, and construction, are instrumental in the economic growth of the emirate. Other key advantages that the city has is its strategic location, political and economic stability, open and free economic system, world class infrastructure and service sector, competitive cost structure, and excellent living conditions, among an endless array of the emirate’s active development strategies.

Public Relations and social media: Why is it important?

Fifteen years ago when I stepped into Dubai, the scene was totally different. Sheikh Zayed Road still had much fewer buildings and the world’s tallest tower was nowhere in sight. If you fast forward the time to know, each part of Dubai is bustling with something new.

Similarly, PR was also in a nascent stage, then, but today everything has evolved and UAE is a global force to reckon with. The dynamics of PR has changed and there has been a paradigm shift in the way we look at things in the realm of PR.

There are many companies in the UAE that have some really inspiring stories to tell but they are still not sure about the ways to unveil these stories to the public at large and of course their target audience.

Think of the next generation: please recycle

As an agency we are proud to work with a client that is directly involved in making a difference to the environment that we live in. Climate change and global warming are one of the most talked about subjects these days, but very few actually take efforts to change the climate change equation.

Creating awareness about waste management is an ideal way of educating the masses about focusing on collecting and segregating recyclable waste at source thus reducing the impact on the landfill. Dubai Municipality in association with our client - Dulsco introduced a campaign which aims to re-instill the best practices for cleanliness and make Dubai a greener city.

PR and ‘Common Sense’: Two sides of the same page

“The three great essentials to achieve anything worthwhile are, first, hard work; second, stick-to-itiveness; third, common sense.” ― Thomas A. Edison.

I was pursuing my MBA in marketing in India, way back in 1996. As part of the course, I had to also undergo a training programme in an organisation to complete my course. After this two months long stint, I had to come up with a comprehensive and thought provoking dissertation.

On the very first day, I had an opportunity to meet the Chairman of the company and he enquired about my MBA programme. I tried to impress him with my strategies and other thoughts that I had acquired from my B-school. He nodded his head and said, that’s all really wonderful, but you need to get your hands dirty and learn the tricks of the trade, the hard way and that needs a lot of patience and ‘common sense’.

This thought still plays on my mind when I am meeting clients. If you really want to get something good out of the PR firm then it is important to delve a little deeper than the fancy presentations.

Brand UAE has gone global with several Hollywood and Bollywood movies. Mission Impossible Ghost Protocol, Star Trek, Star Wars, Fast and Furious, Airlift, Race, Welcome Back among several other movies have been shot in the UAE now.

So what does that imply, the world is now looking at UAE, literally. There is a dedicated Bollywood themepark as well which will be launched in October 2016.Crew from Hollywood and Bollywood make regular trips to the UAE. I am sure more movies are being planned with the scenic UAE. Watchout this space for more.
